5 Golden Rules For Dealing With A Car Accident

Under the Motor Claims Framework, all accidents have to be officially reported within 24 hours, regardless of whether there are damages to your car or not. For a smoother and hassle-free claim process, remember these five golden rules when you are involved in a traffic accident:

Rule 1: Exchange Driver's Particulars

Take down name, NRIC number, contact number and vehicle number.

Rule 2: Take Photographs

Take photographs of the scene of accident. The photographs should show the positions of your vehicle and other involved vehicle(s), road signs, and tyre marks. One photograph must show the vehicle numbers of the involved vehicles.

Rule 3: Witness Statement

If there is any witness to the accident, you are advised to obtain a statement from the witness, including the name and contact number.

Rule 4: Make A Police Report

You would need to make a police report within 24 hours if:
  1. Someone is injured and sent to the hospital.
  2. The accident involves a pedestrian or cyclist.
  3. One of the parties is a foreign-registered vehicle or government vehicle.
  4. Government property (lamp post, railings, etc) is damaged in the accident.
  5. Third-party 'hit-and-run'.

Rule 5: Call for Towing

If your vehicle cannot be driven, call our 24-hour hotline 6553 1111.
