On 11 December 2011, our SPARK Motorsports™ Team participated in the Preview Round of MegaLAP Time Attack race at Sepang, Kuala Lumpur. We came in 1st and 2nd placement in the Open Class. There were more than 54 cars from Singapore and Malaysia ranging from Honda Civic right up to Lotus Exiga GT4. We are indeed proud to beat all these cars!

In April 2011, we also came in 1st and 3rd placement in the Formula Drift, Asia 2011 organised by ESPN.

SPARK Motorsports™ Team undertook the task of building our 2 race cars and putting our chosen experienced driver behind the wheels to achieve the best possible results with the least budget and time constraints. Our engines were built using Cosworth components as well as parts from our business partners wherever possible, using our own technical expertise in-house. Our EVO 7 was re-built from scratch in less than two months before the race.

The RCA Race Craft Academy in conjunction with internet portal ignition.my have been organizing Time Attack events in Sepang for a number of years. They have plans to launch the MegaLAP Time Attack, Singapore-Malaysia Challenge in 2012. The 11 Dec 2011 Preview Race was for various participating motorsports workshops from Singapore and Malaysia to showcase the technical abilities. Our participation in such Motorsports events will raise our profile in the Singapore Motorsports industry and enhance our SPARK™ branding.

2011 is coming to an end but we are not going to let the year creep by without making a bang. SPARK Car Care™ once again participated in the SPH Car-nival Holiday Edition 2011. The 3-day event attracted more than 60,000 visitors and saw the purchase of nearly a total of 100 new and pre-owned cars!

Situated in the Car Accessories section, SPARK Car Care™ went all out to ensure that our booth shines through the exhibition hall. A beautifully designed set, coupled with a tastefully groomed Porsche and a lineup of attractive promotions, SPARK Car Care™ definitely stood out from the crowd. Our best seller of the event is the SHELL HELIX Ultra Essential Servicing Package that is priced at $108 only (U.P. $138)! Many customers, both new and existing grabbed this golden opportunity and purchased not just one, but two, or even three servicing packages all at one go!

To add more excitement to the event, Special Daily Deals were introduced on 26th (Sat) and 27th (Sun) November. Full sets of Customised 8A Car Mats for sedans were priced at $68 (U.P. $90) on Saturday and our SPARK™ Fresh 2-in-1 Air-con Treatment was at a jaw-dropping price of only $38 (U.P.$68) on Sunday! Other than these attractive offers, customers also get to try their luck at our Sure-Win Lucky Spin that came with every purchase.

The highlight of the 3-day event was our Grand Lucky Draw with prizes that include an APPLE iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a 42" JVC LCD TV! SPARK Motorsports™ held their first ever Advanced Driving Clinic which was open to their customers as well as members of the public.

With a record turnout of over 25 participants driving all manner of vehicles, from your average family sedan to SUVs, hot hatches and performance vehicles – it was a varied and interesting mix. Response was overwhelmingly good. Held at the Singapore Turf Club on the 12th of November 2011, the day was packed with exciting activities, demonstrations, food and of course, lots of tyre burning action! Situated at a massive bus depot within the Turf Club's compounds, the space was ideal for a variety of courses that were designed and specifically developed to inform, improve a driver's defensive driving skills and coordination.

Registration and briefing began bright and early at 8:30am before participants were introduced to a basic slalom course which trained and sharpened their driving coordination. This was followed by a lesson on Emergency Braking as well as Brake and Swerve. Both of which are crucial components to mastering defensive driving techniques.

12 noon saw a break for lunch for all attendees, where a sumptuous lunch catered by SPARK Motorsports™ awaited them. The casual setting proved to be an ideal place for driver interaction amongst themselves, the instructors and SPARK Motorsports™ representatives. During the intermission, they were even treated to a special performance by SPARK Motorsports™ driver, Ivan and instructor, Sylvester Lim.

With lunch settled, the skies began to darken and it began to pour cats and dogs, which was even more ideal, because the next set of lessons involved heavy tyre wear; the rain will significantly reduce the wear rate on the tyres and also aid in the course. Handbrake and J-Turns were top of the agenda and the majority of drivers had no problems sending their vehicles into well-timed and sorted turns much to the delight of the instructors with thanks in partial to the pouring rain.

The finale of the event was a Mini-Competition whereby everything the participants learnt were implemented onto a set course, drivers had to perform all the various courses they learned, the top five with the fastest timing stand to win attractive prizes from SPARK Motorsports™. Naturally the drivers were thrilled and did their best, with everyone putting up an impressive display of tenacity and determination. The winner of the competition with the fastest timing was driving a Toyota Vios, proving that power isn't everything; you just need the right driving skills for the job!

The 25 drivers enjoyed their time tremendously and SPARK Motorsports™ will definitely be organising another Advanced Driving Clinic again very, very soon to cater to even more drivers that have expressed interest in obtaining vital driving skills necessary while commuting on our roads.

What is a Slalom Course?

On the surface, the slalom looks simple and easy to execute, in slow motion. Speed up and you will experience the handling characteristics of your car's suspension system, tyres and advanced electronics. This course is designed for you to test and understand the dynamics of the car you are driving. It is a series of fast left, right maneuvers around a series of pylons placed in a straight line. The objective is to allow the driver to understand the dynamics of the car in the event that he or she has to make quick steering changes while driving (under adverse conditions).

How can the Emergency Brake be applied effectively?

Most modern cars come with ABS Anti-Lock Braking System as standard, a life saving system. But too many new drivers are not aware of how this system works. When the ABS is activated in an emergency, pulses can be felt on the brake pedal and a loud grinding sound. Some drivers let go of the brakes pedals in shock. At our course, all of us will get to feel how the ABS system reacts under safe and controlled conditions.

How can we Brake and swerve to avoid oncoming danger?

The ABS is part of the Active Safety Feature, so it is important that you are in control as you brake and swerve to avoid an oncoming danger. This station will require you to put the ABS system to good use as the system gives you steering control even when braking. This is quite a scary station but drivers leave with more confidence with their cars and driving skills.

How can Handbrake turn save life?

This is part of the Evasive Technique that you see in many Hollywood movies. It is also often used in Autotest competitions usually done by Singapore Motor Sports Association. It is a spectacular maneuver if done correctly. Knowing this skill may save your life and family in the event you need to quick evade a robbery especially when driving in neighboring countries. Anyone can learn this technique.

Master the J-Turn or Reverse Flick to improve your driving skills

This is similar to the handbrake turn except that this is performed while reversing. Again, this is a skill that you may need to use in an emergency. Knowing how to perform this will increase your driving skills tremendously.

The date is 10 July 2011 and SPARK Car Care™ is back at the SPH Car-nival 2011 as a proud participant. The largest ever edition of Automechanika Middle East recently concluded in Dubai. The 9th edition of the largest international automotive aftermarket trade fair in the Middle East welcomed 17,421 trade visitors from over 120 countries. In terms of exhibitors, 1,102 companies featuring products and services across the entire spectrum of the automotive aftermarket industry were represented from 52 different countries, rendering it a truly international exhibition.

ComfortDelGro Engineering seized this golden opportunity and displayed its own brand of premium automotive products, SPARK™. On 20 May 2011, the CDGE Service Awards Ceremony, for 1st Qtr 2011, was held at Loyang Innovation Centre.

The ceremony awards staff who are clearly the epitome of goodwill and great service! Altogether, 25 staff were awarded the CEO Commendation Award, and 6 staff for the E-Service Appreciation Award.

Automechanika Shanghai, Asia's largest trade fair for automotive parts, equipment and services, took place on the 8th to 11th of December 2010 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The sixth edition attracted a record-breaking 3,115 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions, showcasing their latest automotive products, services and innovations in 138,000 sqm of exhibition space covering 11 established halls plus six temporary halls.
